A Legacy of Excellence Continues: Beta Gamma Sigma HKU Chapter Inducts Over 100 Outstanding Scholars
The Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) HKU Chapter proudly hosted its induction ceremony on 16 April 2026 at the HKU iCube. The event marked the induction of 129 exceptional undergraduate and postgraduate students into the esteemed ranks of Beta Gamma Sigma. Additionally, Professor Patrick Nip Tak-kuen, GBS, JP, Adjunct Professor at The University of Hong Kong and a highly experienced senior official dedicated to public service and governance, was awarded the prestigious title of BGS HKU Chapter Honoree.
The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome from Professor Hongbin Cai, Dean of the HKU Business School, who extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly inducted members. He highlighted the school’s 25th-anniversary milestone, marked by global expansion through new centres in Shanghai and Barcelona; thriving hubs in Beijing, Shenzhen, and Vietnam; and alumni chapters spanning Mainland China, the Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East, uniting 42,000 alumni worldwide. Dean Cai underscored the school’s commitment to cultivating purposeful, responsible leaders. He emphasised that a truly world-class business education combines academic rigour with the cultivation of strong values, conscience, and character, placing a firm emphasis on ethical leadership and digital responsibility. He also encouraged the new inductees to leverage the extensive networks of both BGS and the HKU Business School, urging them to uphold the values of excellence, service, and lifelong learning to make a positive global impact.

During the ceremony, the audience also had the privilege of hearing from Professor Patrick Nip Tak-kuen, who graciously shared reflections on his 36-year journey in Hong Kong’s public service. He emphasised a leadership style rooted in integrity, empathy, and a lifelong commitment to the common good. As an alumnus, he spoke of the transformative power of a purpose-driven life, a concept he discovered during his own time at HKU. To the newly inducted members, he offered unwavering encouragement to cultivate a global outlook, national understanding, and local concern. He urged them to remain curious, to question, to learn, and to explore, assuring them that while their education provides the necessary tools, it is their curiosity that will give those tools life and meaning.

The evening continues with a sharing by Mr Alex Fung, Vice President of the BGS Hong Kong Alumni Chapter. He outlined the four key benefits offered by the BGS Hong Kong Alumni Chapter: Recognition, Knowledge, Network, and Service. As one of the first overseas BGS alumni chapters with 500 members, it provides a platform for members to excel individually and professionally and to contribute to society. Through exclusive events such as dinners with top business leaders, company visits, and networking sessions, members gain real-world insights beyond classroom learning. He strongly encourages all new inductees to join the BGS Hong Kong Alumni Chapter and participate actively.
