HKUBS PhD Recruitment Camp 2025: Inspiring the Next Generation of Scholars
The HKU Business School is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the PhD Recruitment Camp 2025, held from June 24 to 26, 2025. This dynamic three-day event brought together 54 exceptional students from diverse academic backgrounds across Hong Kong, China, Singapore, the UK, and the USA. Selected from over 350 applicants, these talented individuals participated in an immersive experience designed to showcase our PhD programme and inspire academic excellence.
The camp commenced with an inspiring address by Prof. Chen Lin, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Business), who provided an overview of the Faculty and our vibrant PhD Programme. Following a warm welcome, a distinguished alumnus from the class of 2021, Prof. Yunlu Yin (Associate Professor of Marketing in Fudan University), shared his personal journey and insights into his PhD experience at HKU Business School, inspiring attendees with his story.
Participants also explored the university’s vibrant environment with guided tours led by student ambassadors from the Development & Alumni Affairs Office, highlighting HKU’s rich history and dynamic campus life. The first day concluded with a delicious seafood dinner at Lamma Island. Participants took a scenic boat ride from the heart of the city to visit an authentic restaurant on the island, enjoying the stunning night view of Victoria Harbour along the way. It was an excellent opportunity for participants, current students, and faculty members to connect informally in a relaxed and scenic setting.
Day 2 showcased the diverse research talents of our current PhD students during the Research Showcase, where six students presented their innovative projects. During lunchtime, attendees–including presenters, Camp participants, PhD students, and faculty members – savoured a selection of traditional Dim Sum and local dishes, fostering informal discussions and connections following the Showcase. In the afternoon, attendees were divided according to their research interests to participate in Area-based activities specially designed for the Camp. Through engaging discussions and the presentation of research proposals, participants had an excellent opportunity to refine their academic perspectives and deepen their understanding of their respective fields.
The final day featured a heartfelt closing ceremony by Prof. Chen Lin. Professor Lin shared valuable insights into the PhD journey and research, highlighting the importance of gaining “a good taste of research” during one’s studies. Certificates of participation were awarded to all attendees, followed by individual interviews and assessments. Based on their potential and performance during these sessions, top-performing participants will be offered opportunities for early admission.
We believe this year’s camp has not only deepened participants’ understanding of our PhD programme but also ignited their passion for research. We sincerely thank all supporting partners and participants for making the HKUBS PhD Recruitment Camp 2025 a resounding success.
