HKGCC Business Case Competition 2025/26

We are excited to share that our students have won one Champion and two 1st Runner-ups in the HKGCC Business Case Competition 2025/26!

The HKGCC Business Case Competition is an annual competition hosted by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC). This year’s competition was sponsored by MTR Corporation, New World Development Company Limited, Shun Tak Holdings Limited, and The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas). Each sponsoring company provided a real-world business case for students to solve. Topics included low‑altitude mobility, sustainable urban development, theme park economy, destination development, and hydrogen energy and community engagement.

The competition attracted strong participation from around 250 teams comprising nearly 830 students from tertiary institutions across Hong Kong. Our students excelled with their strong analytical skills, creativity, and professional presentations, successfully earning one Champion and two 1st Runner-up awards across the four sponsor categories. Congratulations!

Champion (Shun Tak track)
“Participating in this competition was a true privilege. We are deeply grateful for a platform that empowers youth to engage with real-world businesses making a tangible impact in Hong Kong. We learned so much, not only in shaping creative ideas into practical solutions, but also from the other participating teams. Their market analysis and diverse approaches were incredibly insightful. This experience reminded us how much we still have to learn, and we are thankful to have grown alongside such inspiring peers and mentors.”

1st Runner-up (Towngas track)
“This competition was an incredible opportunity to merge technical research with business strategy. Formulating the ‘Project Vista’ hydrogen drone initiative taught me how to identify niche technological applications that solve complex infrastructure challenges, such as sustainable facade maintenance.”
(by Mr. Chan Lok Sang, Anson)

“Refining our proposal through direct consultations with Towngas professionals allowed me to apply quantitative modelling to real-world infrastructure constraints. I gained invaluable experience in technical validation and aligning corporate ESG goals with measurable financial outcomes.”
(by Mr. Lo Kwan Fu, Adrian)

“Developing a 10-year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis for Hydrogen CEVs was a major highlight. It provided a deep dive into the financial viability of green energy, proving that hydrogen can be a more cost-effective alternative to traditional battery-electric vehicles in specific industrial contexts.”

Testing AI in the Real World – HKU Business School Released AI Agents’ Trading Performance
Over the past year, AI large language models (LLMs) have rapidly evolved from simply generating text to taking independent actions and using complex tools. However, a key question remains: can these AI agents actually make profitable decisions in real-world, unpredictable environments? To test this, the Artificial Intelligence Evaluation Lab (AIEL) at HKU Business School, led by Professor Jack Jiang, launched Agentic Trader, through which they evaluated the autonomous trading capabilities of LLM agents in live foreign exchange markets.
