HKU BGLIS Students Selected for the HKU University Philharmonic Orchestra

Two first-year students from the inaugural cohort of BGLIS (Bachelor of Global Leadership, Innovation and Society) at HKU Business School have won places in the HKU University Philharmonic Orchestra for its freshman performance. Audrey Xiaodi Liu has been named Concertmistress — the outer first desk of the first violin section — and Aaron Lam joins the cello section at the outer second desk.

As Concertmistress for the freshman performance, Audrey leads the orchestra, serves as the principal of the first-violin section, and takes on the solo excerpts featured throughout the concert repertoire. The leadership of the Philharmonic Orchestra made the appointment directly, in recognition of her exceptional musical talent and her performance at audition.

Aaron takes the outer second desk of the cello section for the same performance. Having played the cello for twelve years, he is keen to continue his musical journey at HKU.

Audrey and Aaron also performed in a piano trio at the freshman show on 9 October, playing Brahms’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C major, Op. 87 — a work that reflects the warmth, depth and structural richness of the composer’s mature style. The pair rehearsed extensively for the occasion, and the BGLIS community was delighted to support them on stage.
