From Global Manufacturing to Education: Lecture with Fuyao Cho Tak Wong
The historic Loke Yew Hall was filled to capacity as HKU Business School, together with the School of Future Media, welcomed Mr. Cho Tak Wong, founder of Fuyao Group, for a lecture on global business expansion and the role of education in societal advancement.
Mr Cho is widely recognised as a pioneer in taking Chinese manufacturing onto the global stage and is the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary American Factory. In his remarks, he traced his journey from building a leading automotive glass manufacturer to navigating complex international markets, while consistently investing in education to support future generations.
Key Themes
- Navigating the Global Stage. Successfully expanding a business globally requires not only industry expertise, but also a pragmatic approach to understanding and adapting to diverse local cultures and operational realities.
- Learning Beyond the Classroom. Bridging the gap between academia and industry is vital. Immersing students in real-world environments and hands-on challenges early on is the true catalyst for future innovation.
- The True Value of Legacy. When asked what should be passed down to the next generation, Cho emphasized knowledge, wisdom, and virtue are far more critical than the simple transfer of wealth.
