HKCGI Corporate Governance Paper Competition and Presentation Awards 2026
We are delighted to share that our students have been awarded 1st Runner-up in Paper Writing Competition and Merit Prize in Paper Presentation Competition of the HKCGI Corporate Governance Paper Competition and Presentation Awards 2026.
Organised by The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI), the Competition aims to promote the importance of good corporate governance among undergraduate students in Hong Kong. Through the competition, participants are given the opportunity to research, write and present their perspectives on contemporary issues in corporate governance.
This year’s theme, “Is AI the Make-or-Break for Governance?”, invited participants to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on governance practices. Topics explored included the risks of biased or unfair outcomes, the transparency and explainability of AI-supported decisions, challenges surrounding data privacy and security, the role of human oversight, and whether AI ultimately strengthens or undermines effective governance.
The competition attracted 70 research papers from teams across Hong Kong. Our students showed solid analytical, research and presentation skills, stood out in a competitive field, and achieved excellent results. Congratulations on their remarkable accomplishments!

“Researching AI governance risks in Hong Kong listed firms taught me how to bridge complex technological challenges, such as dynamic model drift, opacity and “AI-washing” with practical board-level strategies.
I gained hands-on experience turning theoretical agency problems into an actionable 10-point equity evaluation framework. This process sharpened my analytical thinking on how proper oversight can turn artificial intelligence from a governance vulnerability into a strategic asset. Beyond technical knowledge, defending our research before industry experts refined my ability to communicate high-stakes risk mitigation insights clearly and professionally. “

“Taking part in the HKCGI Corporate Governance Paper Competition gave me a far deeper understanding of AI governance. Before this competition, I saw AI mainly as a technical tool. Through our research, I came to understand how AI is actually governed in practice, such as how governments and regulators are beginning to oversee its use and how real cases of algorithmic bias, opacity and accountability failures have played out in different jurisdictions. These examples made the issues concrete rather than theoretical.
I also grew significantly through teamwork. Writing a paper together taught me how to structure arguments, refine language and respond to feedback. I learned a great deal from my teammate’s writing discipline and presentation technique, especially since he single-handedly delivered our final presentation. Thanks my teammate so much and I think it was a perfect collaboration.
Above all, this competition felt genuinely relevant to our times. It gave me a far more specific and practical understanding of governance and compliance and why they matter in the age of AI.”
