As the 2026–27 academic year kicked off, HKU Business School warmly welcomed our new undergraduates and incoming exchange students. Beginning in late August 2026, a vibrant series of orientation activities brought the cohort together—connecting peers across programmes, introducing key academic and support teams, and sharing practical guidance for a confident start. The result was clear: new faces quickly became one community, ready to thrive.

• August 29 | Faculty Academic Induction Talk: Our official welcome for all 2026–27 undergraduate freshmen delivered a refreshed, student‑centred onboarding experience. This year’s induction moved beyond information‑sharing to focus on mindset, road‑mapping and practical takeaways for starting a four‑year journey at HKU Business School. Faculty academics and senior students shared personal stories and actionable tips, while an applied business case—supported by alumnus Mr Raymond Mak (Co‑founder and CEO, Farmacy Group; MBA Class of 2017)—gave freshmen their first taste of cross‑cultural teamwork and problem‑ The day closed with a lively expo of student societies, helping newcomers connect their interests with opportunities for both personal and professional growth. Feedback from participants highlights the School’s active role in creating a welcoming, well‑supported start to university life.

• August 26 | Incoming Exchange Students Orientation: We welcomed over 350 incoming exchange students from 136 partner institutions across 25 countries and regions as they began their journey at HKU Business School. Alongside practical academic advice, student leaders from faculty-affiliated societies (BEA, BA, EFS, and ISS) and our student ambassadors were on hand to greet everyone, share survival tips, and give them a tour around campus to help them settle in.

• August 29 – September 22 | 10 Programme Induction Sessions for Freshmen across 11 Undergraduate Programmes:Going the extra mile beyond the Faculty‑wide induction, HKU Business School organised programme‑based induction sessions to give freshmen a deeper, more personalised start. With the generous support of Programme Directors and Deputy Programme Directors, students connected closely with teaching staff, explored the distinct character of their majors, and took away practical, programme‑specific advice from senior buddies and alumni. It is pleasant to observe a lively Q&A, honest peer‑to‑peer tips, and new networks forming across cohorts. In addition, a dedicated semester‑start dinner brought together staff and students from all Dual Degree Programmes within the Business School community. The evening fostered meaningful cross‑programme conversations and new friendships, showing the supportive community.

• September 8 | Career Orientation for Undergraduate Freshmen: At this insightful session, freshmen gained valuable insights into the finance industry, exploring career opportunities, emerging trends, and potential career pathways. Through a career self-discovery exercise, students learned to identify their strengths and understand how different profile patterns align with various roles and industries. The session also featured a sharing by a current Business School undergraduate, who offered practical advice on securing internships and maximizing learning opportunities offered by the School. The event encouraged students to start planning their careers early and take proactive steps towards their professional goals.

With tremendous excitement, we welcomed our 2026–27 freshmen and exchange students and stand ready to support them as they embark on their HKU Business School journey—new faces, one community, moving forward together.
