Abstract:
A growing literature documents that skill investment at younger ages generates persistent impacts on later stages of skill development. This finding is based on a fundamental concept in the technology of skill formation: the existence of dynamic complementarity between skill stock and skill investment at different stages. We will develop state-of-the-art nonparametric methods to test this complementarity relationship. Simultaneously, we will provide a novel estimation strategy to quantify the magnitude of dynamic complementarity without imposing normalization across different developmental stages.
