Leading Through Uncertainty: Masterclass with Prof. Philip N L Chen
HKU Business School was honoured to welcome Prof. Philip Chen, distinguished business leader and alumnus, for an inspiring session on crisis leadership that drew over 150 alumni, students, and guests. A highly respected educator whose MBA course is consistently in high demand, Prof. Chen drew from his latest publication, 《臨危不亂—危機管理兵法》, to explore strategic responses to crises and the cultivation of organisational resilience.
With extensive executive experience at Cathay Pacific, Hang Lung Properties, and The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Prof. Chen provided a thoughtful analysis of how organisations can navigate high-stakes situations while upholding integrity and stability. His reflections combined practical frameworks with real-world case examples, offering valuable insights for leaders across both the private and public sectors.
The occasion also marked a significant milestone for the School. Prof. Hongbin Cai, Dean of HKU Business School, formally announced Prof. Chen’s appointment as Honorary Professor, in recognition of his longstanding contributions as an MBA alumnus, esteemed educator, and generous supporter of the School’s MBA scholarship.
Bringing in a public-sector perspective, our very own alumnus and Adjunct Professor Patrick Nip—former Secretary for the Civil Service and Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs of the HKSAR Government—joined Prof. Chen in a dialogue on leading through crises. Their conversation underscored the importance of transparent stakeholder communication, robust governance, and decisive action in times of uncertainty.
HKU Business School extends its sincere appreciation to the HKU Business School South China Alumni Network – Culture and Education Chapter for their generous support in making this event possible.
