Empowering Tomorrow’s Accounting and Finance Leaders: Renewing the MoU between ACCA and HKU Business School

Sustaining a shared commitment to inspire tomorrow’s Accounting and Finance professionals.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and HKU Business School renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today. This latest Agreement is the third that was signed between the two organisations, reaffirming both organisations’ dedication towards supporting tomorrow’s Accounting and Finance leaders.

The first MoU with the ACCA in 2018 made HKU Business School the first institution in Hong Kong to have the global resources and support from the ACCA, including teaching guidelines, case studies, and learning materials. In addition, the HKU Business School Master of Accounting [MAcct] Programme secured the maximum exemptions available for qualifying for the ACCA papers at the ‘Fundamentals’ Level, providing graduates with exemptions for nine ACCA papers.

This third MoU marks a significant milestone by extending benefits to HKU Business School’s undergraduate programmes: the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance [BBA(Acc&Fin)] and the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting Data Analytics [BBA(ADA)]. By integrating ACCA’s frameworks and accreditation into these programmes, this year more than 1,200 students will benefit from enhanced learning opportunities and a competitive advantage in the job market.

In keeping with the partnership’s previous success, this year’s MoU will elevate HKU Business School’s capacity to attract top talent from the region and enhance our graduates’ professional capabilities. The Agreement again strengthens both HKU Business School and the ACCA’s leading positions on the global stage, and reaffirms Hong Kong’s appeal as a globally impactful academic hub.

Ada Leung, Director of ACCA China, said, “This MOU renewal is a reaffirmation of our shared passion and a spirited leap forward for the future of accountancy and finance. It features the ACCA Accelerate Programme, a fast-track pathway embedded in the journey of HKU Business School students, aimed at accelerating their journey to professional membership. The upcoming ‘HKUBS x ACCA Greater Bay Area Study Tour’ reflects our collaborative vision, offering shortlisted HKUBS students an immersive learning experience through engagement with influential industry leaders and regulators including the Qianhai Authority. It signifies a shining example of how our partnership turns aspirations into achievements and fuels the careers of future leaders.”

Professor Hongbin Cai, Dean of HKU Business School, said, “We are delighted to renew our important partnership with the ACCA in order to continue building programmes where students can excel and lead the way in their chosen fields.  In the coming academic year, we will launch the new Master of Accounting Analytics Programme, which will also be ACCA-accredited. I believe the synergy between the two leading organisations will greatly empower the next generation of leaders in accountancy, the tax profession, law, and beyond.”
