Professor Au is Chief Executive Officer of Nina Wang Charity Management Limited (NWCML), where he leads the administration of the charitable trust established under the estate of the late Mrs Nina Wang.
Prior to joining NWCML, he served as Executive Director of the Financial Services Development Council, following a distinguished career that included senior management roles at several prominent global and local financial institutions.
Professor Au was awarded the Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government in 2008 in recognition of his contributions to the securities and asset management industry. In 2025, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Chief Executive. He was twice named CEO of the Year in Hong Kong by Asia Asset Management (2012, 2014). He previously served as Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (2006–2008) and Chairman of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association (2004–2005).
Professor Au has held numerous public service roles. He is currently a board member of the Hong Kong Autism Institute, a member of the Finance and Investment Committees of Adventist Health Hong Kong, a member of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and an Index Advisory Committee member for China Securities Index Co. and the Shanghai Stock Exchange among other public duties. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Hong Kong.
Professor Au is a CFA Charterholder and an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute. He earned his BA in Physics from the University of Oxford and his PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics from the University of Durham.
