Dr. Francis Lau, our MFin Alumni and Mr Alex Cheung, Chief Executive Officer, Kami Intelligence Limited delivered a professional seminar on “Latest Development and Applications of AI and FinTech in Banking and Finance Industry” on April 25, 2020 (Saturday) via Zoom.
The speakers shared the latest development and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and FinTech in the banking and finance industry. They provided guidance on domain expertise and technical skills required to begin and accelerate career development in AI and FinTech arena.

About the Speaker:
Dr Francis Lau, PhD, CFA, FRM
Dr Lau is a seasoned finance practitioner with over 20 years’ analytics, compliance, operations, research and risk management experiences from multinational banks and vendors. His subject matter expertise includes building enterprise-wide risk management framework, enhancing effectiveness of business decision making with analytics, strengthening corporate governance structure of organizations and streamlining management reporting processes. In addition to industry experiences, Dr Lau is also passionate in education. He develops and delivers academic and executive education programs for corporations, professional associations and universities. He has practical experiences in teaching financial modelling, programming, quantitative analysis and risk management. In recent years, Dr Lau actively engage in the development and delivery of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data and FinTech related programs.
Mr Alex Cheung (Chief Executive Officer, Kami Intelligence Limited)
Alex starts to learn programming with BASIC when he was 8 years old and computer has been an important part of his life for over 30 years. He is the founder and CEO of Kami, an award-winning deep tech company specialized in machine learning and natural language processing. Before founding Kami, Alex held international leadership positions related to applying innovative and emerging technologies to commercial applications. He was IT Director with Travelzen (真旅網), one of the largest B2B online travel agent in China. Before Travelzen, he was leading the development of Riskpro©, flagship risk management system for Fortune 500 companies, at Synaptic Technology, a Houston-based consulting firm. He had also led the product department of various mission critical / innovative products successfully launched in Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region at Cherrypicks, a regional mobile technology and m-Commerce leader. He was consultant at Octopus Card Hong Kong Limited, one of the world’s largest transportation card system, supporting their central clearing system which processes over 13 million transactions per day in Hong Kong. Before Octopus, Alex was also actively involved in system development of trading platforms for prestigious financial institutions including: Bank of Communication, Charles Schwab, Nomura Hong Kong, etc.
