Leadership Talk: Talents are always mobile
On May 6, we had the pleasure of hosting Mei Mei Ng, General Manager, Head of Talent Solutions of LinkedIn Hong Kong and Taiwan, who shared with us an inspiring and informative talk centered around establishing thought leadership and executive presence using social media during this IMBA Executive Workshop for our students. Her sharing attracted business leaders and executives from various industries who were eager to learn about enhancing their personal and professional brand, as well as their presence and impact online in the session.
Alumni Get-together
What a wonderful night it was at our first alumni happy hour event after the pandemic! Over 130 HKU Business School alumni, graduated in different years and across different disciplines, had a blast mixing and mingling at Tai Kwun!
It was great to see our very own Dr Matthias Buelmaier (BBA-IBGM Programme Director), Sachin Tipnis (Senior Executive Director – Taught Postgraduate) and Alice Hui (Head of Development & Alumni), both of two are our MBA alums as well, catching up with our cherished alumni and representing our school with pride and style, as always. The event was really engaging, and we were thrilled to see so many familiar faces and reconnect with old friends and make new connections. We can’t wait for the next alumni event and hope to see even more alumni there.
Local Entrepreneur Sharing Talk
The Local Entrepreneur Sharing Talk, co-hosted by the HKU Business School Alumni Association (HKUBSAA) and HKU Business School was a hit success, attracting roughly 100 alumni to reconnect with their peers and Profs, while making new friends from different cohorts and programmes.
Special thanks to our MBA alumni, Francis Cheng, CEO, and Founder of Number One PR Communication Limited, who also sits on the Executive Committee of HKUBSAA for inviting the two distinguished speakers and moderating the session. We had the great pleasure of hosting Tommy Chan, Director of Mainland China & Brand Development of Tai Hing Group, and Benny Leung, Co-Founder & CEO of NOC Coffee, who shared with us their sizzling entrepreneurial stories, challenges, and business strategies during the pandemic and in the post-COVID era.
NOC and Tai Hing are two of the most recognizable and popular café and “cha chaan teng” brands respectively in Hong Kong, nowadays. The speakers’ insightful sharing imparted both business wisdom and management philosophies to our audience, especially those thinking of pursuing their own entrepreneurial journeys.
The CIMC Vehicles Leadership Talk
The CIMC Vehicles Leadership Talk event co-hosted by HKUBSAA and HKU Business School was successfully held with just over 70 business school alumni and students joining together, in person and online.
Our distinguished speaker, Mr. David Li, CEO, President & Executive Director of the Board of CIMC Vehicles (Group), shared with us his leadership philosophy of combining creative ideas, dedication, and advanced technologies to develop one of the world’s sophisticated manufacturing systems. CIMC Vehicles is now the leading manufacturer of truck bodies for specialty vehicles and refrigerated truck bodies in the world. Mr. Li’s inspiring leadership journey and business vision provided encouragement and enlightenment to our students and to all who have attended the event.
At the second part of the talk, alumnus Ms. Flora Mao, Vice President & Secretary of the Board of Directors of CIMC Vehicles (Group) shared her insights on charting a successful career path and how she applied her HKU MBA skill set in achieving such impressive career advancement. As the highlight of the presentation, Ms. Mao introduced CIMC Vehicles’ current career opportunities and talent development plans.
Both the speakers believe that investing in human capital is an extremely valuable to building a successful enterprise and CIMC is constantly keen to implement and balance employee-friendly policies while achieving rapid business growth.
A sincere thanks to both David and Flora for sharing with us their insightful knowledge and advice, which will serve to empower our students and alumni to achieve great success in the real business world!
Alumni Engagement at the Class of 2022 Congregation
At the 208th Congregation of HKU Business School, the class of 2022 graduates paraded in their caps and gowns to celebrate their commencement with family and friends. HKU Business School Alumni Association ExCo and members were also on site to congratulate the new alums and to welcome them to join the alumni community. Once again, congratulations to our HKU Business School graduates!
Alumni Get-together in Seoul
Our alumni in Seoul reunited and celebrated the New Year with Mr. David S Lee and fellows with cozy food and drinks on January 5! This gathering also represented the first-ever alumni event held in South Korea. About 20 former and current students gathered together in downtown Seoul to break bread and reconnect. The group was excited to share about alumni initiatives at HKU Business School. Everyone enjoyed rekindling friendships filled with laughter and positive energy.
