Future Leader Scholarship Programme 2025 | Student Sharing: Emi Hasegawa
Meet Emi Hasegawa, a final-year BBA (IBGM) student at HKU Business School with a second major in Counselling, and a proud recipient of the Future Leader Scholarship for 2024-2025. While Emi’s journey at HKU was marked by high-level success in internships and case competitions, a sudden health scare served as a critical wake-up call regarding the sustainability of her high-pressure lifestyle.
The Scholarship provided more than financial support; it offered a “stamp of encouragement” that empowered her to pursue a transformative exchange at the University of British Columbia. During her time abroad, Emi engaged in a course titled the Sociology of Personal Life. It shifted her focus from textbooks to the power of personal narratives. This experience gave her the courage to open up and connect more deeply with her peers, the faculty, and herself.
Today, Emi aspires to be a leader who prioritises kindness and uses her talents to uplift others. For her, the Scholarship was the catalyst that expanded her horizons beyond traditional metrics of success, fostering a more resilient and inclusive approach to leadership.
