Biography

Prof. AU is Executive Director of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC), which is a high-level, cross-sectoral think tank established by the HKSAR Government for formulating proposals and mapping out the strategic direction for the advancement of the Hong Kong financial services industry.

Prior to joining the FSDC, Prof. AU held top management positions at several prominent global and local financial institutions, where he spearheaded strategic initiatives to drive growth and innovation.

Prof. Au was awarded the Medal of Honor by the HKSAR Government in 2008 for his valuable contribution to the securities and asset management industry. In 2025, he was appointed as a Justice of the Peace by the Chief Executive. He was also named CEO of the Year in Hong Kong by Asia Asset Management in both 2012 and 2014. Previously, he served as Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI) from 2006 to 2008, and as Chairman of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association in 2004/2005.

Prof. Au has served on many committees and panels over the years. He is currently a Council member of the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Public Accountants, an Index Advisory Committee member of China Securities Index Co and Shanghai Stock Exchange, a Board Director of The World Alliance of International Financial Centers, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Hong Kong among other public duties.

Prof. Au is a CFA Charterholder, an Honorary Fellow of the HKSI. He received his BA in Physics from the University of Oxford and PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics from the University of Durham.
