Student Interview | Henry Meng: Energy is What Keeps Me Moving Forward

“Inspire. Empower. Lead.” More than just a slogan, the essence of HKUFBE serves as a guide for students and alumni to grow and achieve their dreams.

In our “LEAD Interview” series, we invited four outstanding students and alumni to explore the various facets of leadership – each based on an anchor word starting with L, E, A, or D.

Lingcheng Henry Meng

E is for Energetic
  • 2024 Graduate, Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, The University of British Columbia
  • 2025 Graduate, Master of Economics, HKU Business School

To Henry, running is not merely about bursts of energy – it embodies an attitude for the future. Each step falls into a perfect rhythm, and every stretch of road involves choices and perseverance.
His actions prove that true enthusiasm lies in thoughtful planning and genuine passion. Let’s see how he interprets being “energetic” as his motivation for the future!

Enthusiasm Backed by Strategy

“Anyone can just tie their laces and run without thinking,” he said. “Making decisions based on what feels right in the moment. But I believe energy should be spent with purpose, not entirely relying on impulse.” From Vancouver to Hong Kong, Henry always moves towards his goals, driven by strategy and enthusiasm. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Finance at UBC, he enrolled in HKU Business School to undertake the Master of Economics programme. His strategic actions are reflected in his life journey.

HKU Business School: The Best Investment

“Moving from Canada to Hong Kong was a big leap, but I made the right choice,” said Henry. Hong Kong is an international city and a leading global hub for innovation, finance, and cultural diversity. At HKU Business School, Henry can learn alongside top students from around the world, exchanging exciting ideas and visions.

Career Planning: Seeking Certainty in Risk Management

Henry’s goal is to join a leading financial institution and hone his decision-making skills in risk management. He chose Hong Kong to start his career, drawn by its dynamic financial system and the industry’s alignment with international best practices. He concluded: “Some decisions aren’t about immediate comfort; they’re investments in the future. This involves reading conditions, making deliberate choices, and knowing when to hold steady and when to accelerate.”
