*Graduands will be assigned to one of the sessions in the two days according to their respective programme. Eligible graduands registered for the Ceremony will receive a confirmation email by late November 2023, including the assigned session and other Ceremony details.

Registration:

Graduands are required to register for the Ceremony via the below registration system. Graduands who fail to register by October 31, 2023 (Tuesday) will be considered as not attending the Ceremony and will be conferred in absentia.

Eligible graduands registered for the Ceremony will receive a confirmation email by late November 2023, including Ceremony details and event admission arrangements.

Attire:

Graduands are required to collect academic dress before the event. No academic dress will be available for loan on the event day. Please visit the HKU Congregation website for suggested attire. For details on loan of academic dress, please contact: congmail@hku.hk

Graduands who are not in full academic dress will not be presented on stage.

Certificate: The collection of certificates is administered by HKU, please visit the HKU Congregation website for more details. Certificates will not be presented during the Congregation Ceremony on December 3 and 4, 2023.

Virtual Congregation
(administered by HKU):

In view of some graduands’ special needs, HKU will host a Virtual Congregation on November 10, 2023 (Friday).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Eligible graduands can ONLY attend either the Ceremony in December OR the Virtual Congregation in November. If you registered for both, you will be deemed to join the Virtual Congregation and we will NOT process your registration for the December Ceremony.

Important Notes (December Congregation Ceremony):

  1. Graduands will be assigned a seat according to their programmes and the alphabetical order of their surname, and will be invited onto the stage in a programme-specific sequence. Graduands are advised not to swap their seats in order to ensure the smooth running of the conferment procedures.
  2. Graduands and guests are requested to respect fellow graduates by staying for the duration of the Ceremony.
  3. Graduands are required to join the briefing on conferment arrangements to be held at the Grand Hall (Session and time to be confirmed).
  4. Graduands who arrive at the venue after his/her programme is presented to the Presiding Officer will not be allowed to go onto the stage.
  5. Guests are encouraged to arrive earlier for registration. Guests arriving after the Ceremony commences may not be permitted to enter the Grand Hall, in order to ensure no disruption to the Ceremony. Please remember to bring your mobile device or print-out copy to show the confirmation email for onsite registration.
  6. Participants attending the Congregation Ceremony are deemed to have acknowledged and agreed to abide by the House Rules.
  7. The University and the Faculty may make appropriate adjustments to the Ceremony arrangements. Please stay tuned for further updates.

FAQs (December Congregation Ceremony)

Registration:

Only graduands eligible for graduation can attend the Congregation Ceremony. If you have questions on your graduation eligibility, please contact your respective programme office directly.

Unfortunately, you cannot register for the Congregation Ceremony after the registration deadline. Please contact us at fbegraduation@hku.hk if you have any questions.

Attendance at the Congregation will not affect graduands' graduation status/eligibility.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer the deferral of Congregation Ceremony attendance.

Visa:

Graduands should check the latest entry requirements for traveling to Hong Kong before registration.

If you have registered to attend the Congregation Ceremony, you will receive a confirmation email by late November 2023. If you require a copy of the invitation letter in advance to support your visa application, please contact us at fbegraduation@hku.hk.

Please note that the Faculty is unable to provide additional invitation letter to support visa applications for guests. We recommend you and your guests meet all necessary visa requirements well in advance of the Ceremony to avoid any inconvenience.

Academic Dress and Certificate:

Graduands are required to collect academic dress before the event, please visit the HKU Congregation website for suggested attire. For details of loan of academic dress, please contact: congmail@hku.hk.

You are required to bring a full set of academic dress and to ensure proper attire is worn together with the academic regalia. You may wish to bring safety pins to secure the gown and hood in place. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking up and down the stage steps. Please refer to here for suggested attire.

No academic dress will be available for loan on the event day.

Academic dress is mandatory for graduands attending the Faculty Congregation Ceremony. Graduands who are not in full academic dress will not be presented on stage.

Adverse Weather Arrangements:

If Tropical Storm Warning Signal No. 8 (or a higher number) or the Rainstorm Black Warning Signal is hoisted on December 3 and 4, 2023 (Sunday and Monday), the following arrangements will be applied:

Morning session
If either of the warnings is hoisted or in force at/after 7:00 a.m., the Ceremony of the day will be cancelled.
If either of the warnings is lowered or cancelled at/before 7:00 a.m., the Ceremony of the day will be held as scheduled.

Afternoon session
If either of the warnings is hoisted or in force at/after 11:00 a.m., the Ceremony of the day will be cancelled.
If either of the warnings is lowered or cancelled at/before 11:00 a.m., the Ceremony of the day will be held as scheduled.

Graduate Employment Survey (GES)

Graduate Employment Survey (GES) is carried out every year by CEDARS-Careers and Placement to collect information on destinations or employment of the graduating class.

Graduates of Class of 2023 are invited to participate in GES 2023. Those who have completed the entire survey before 10 December 2023 (23:59) can get a free HKU Tote Bag, subject to a first-come-first-served basis while stocks last.
