HKU Business School is making waves with the launch of its new alumni networks across the globe, strengthening ties and fostering collaboration among its graduates. In September 2024, the school celebrated the establishment of its North China Alumni Network at the prestigious Beijing Forum. Over 200 guests, including alumni, professors, and students, gathered at the HKU Beijing Centre for an evening of insightful discussions and networking. This milestone marks the first regional alumni network in mainland China, serving as a bridge between the school and its graduates while creating a platform for lifelong learning and mutual growth.

In the current era of rapid technological advancement, artificial intelligence technology continues to achieve groundbreaking progress. Multimodal models such as OpenAI’s GPT-4, Google’s Gemini 2.0, as well as visual-language models like Qwen-VL and Hunyuan-Vision, have rapidly risen. These new-generation models exhibit strong capabilities in image understanding, demonstrating not only outstanding generalization but also broad application potential. However, the current evaluation and understanding of the visual capabilities of these models remain insufficient. Therefore, we propose a systematic framework for evaluating image understanding, encompassing visual perception and recognition, visual reasoning and analysis, visual aesthetics and creativity, and safety and responsibility. By designing targeted test sets, we have conducted a comprehensive evaluation of 20 prominent models from China and the U.S., aiming to provide reliable benchmarks for advancing relevant research and practical application of multimodal models.

HKU Business School is thrilled to announce the establishment of our 2nd international alumni network, in the Middle East. Alongside current full-time MBA students and local business leaders, our Inaugural Executive Committee and other fellow alumni celebrated this momentous occasion together at The Palace Downtown Dubai.

Congratulations to our students for winning the Champion and Best Presenter in the Alvarez & Marsal Hong Kong Business Case Competition 2024! The competition, organised by Alvarez & Marsal, aims to provide students with an opportunity to apply their business knowledge and skills to real-world challenges. The theme of the competition is “Embracing Digital Compliance: Navigating the Dynamic Tax Landscape”. The competition consisted of two rounds. In Round One, teams submitted a detailed proposal on their strategy, and the Top 5 teams advanced to the Final Round where they presented their solutions at the Alvarez & Marsal Hong Kong Office. From over 100 participating teams, our student team stood out by articulating innovative strategies while addressing the challenges of the tax industry in an increasingly digitalising economy. Deloitte Tax Championship is an annual competition for students to showcase their skills and knowledge in China and International Taxation. This year, the competition featured two tracks - Team Track and Individual Track, and three rounds: Preliminary Round, Semi-final Round, and National Finals. Students from Individual Track who advanced to the National Final were matched into a new team with four students from the Team Track. Participants tackled real-world cases focusing on emerging trends like digital tax, carbon tax, AI-technology, and ESG-related issues.
